In the last blog i talked about the tower building exercise and lessons learnt from the same.....In this blog i will give more detailing of the same.....
Setting goals affects outcomes in following ways:
Hence goal setting should be carefully done.We all know that goal setting should be S.M.A.R.T. about which i had talked in the previous blog also .But Dr. Mandi again gave a new perspective to SMART goal setting. He explained that our thoughts should not be restricted to these five keywords only. The interpretation and relevance should vary from situation to situation and person to person.....
He explained the concept of potential, goal setting and goal achieving through graphs and Fibonacci series.
Once we achieve our goals, the expectations for the next time increases. We automatically tend to set a higher goal for ourselves. Hence we can say goals set are greater than our past records. Also our set goals should be greater than our potential as it will motivate us to out perform.
As can be seen the potential, goal set and goal achieved form a vicious circle which can be well explained through FIBONACCI SERIES.
The same can be well understood by The Pygmalion effect.Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved and then prayed and put life to it. The story teaches us that what we desire can be achieved
The Pygmalion effect, or Rosenthal effect, is the phenomenon in which the greater the expectation placed upon people, the better they perform. The effect is named after Pygmalion, a play by George Bernard Shaw. The effect tells that reality can be influenced by the expectations of others. This influence can be beneficial as well as detrimental depending on the individuals way of taking it.
Hence if we set a SMART goal for ourselves and believe in ourselves,we can achieve our goals.
So ending on this positive nod!!!

Setting goals affects outcomes in following ways:
- Choice: goals narrow attention and direct efforts to goal-relevant activities, and away from perceived undesirable and goal-irrelevant actions.
- Effort: goals can lead to more effort; for example, if one typically produces 4 widgets an hour, and has the goal of producing 6, one may work more intensely towards the goal than one would otherwise.
- Cognition: Goals can lead individuals to develop and change their behaviour.
Hence goal setting should be carefully done.We all know that goal setting should be S.M.A.R.T. about which i had talked in the previous blog also .But Dr. Mandi again gave a new perspective to SMART goal setting. He explained that our thoughts should not be restricted to these five keywords only.
